Baldwin built this steam locomotive in November of 1909 originally as the massive Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 2-6-6-2 #4005 (serial #34020, class T-1-A). The compound steam loco was rebuilt by the CBQ Denver shops in May of 1927 to an 0-8-0 configurationand renumbered CBQ #552. The rebuilt loco lasted until being sold for scrap in December of 1948. Rebuilt specs - 56" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 25x32" cylinders, engine wt of 256,300 lb and tractive force of 60,700 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now in my rr collection.
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-8-0 Class F-2 552, date, location, and photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 552 was built by Baldwin (c/n 34020) in 1909 as class T-1-A compound 2-6-6-2 number 4005. It operated system wide until about 1926 when it was sent to the Denver Shops and rebuilt to an 0-8-0, class F-2 552, outshopped in May 1927. Number 552 was retired and sold for scrap in December 1948.
