After concluding my pacing shot, I got ahead of the train, pulled over, and jumped out to grab this still of BNSF 9394, clearly displaying that it is indeed a BNSF thundercab! This would be the last shot of the chase before I headed home for the night.
Dark pacing shot of 9394 rolling westward towards the Viterra grain elevator in Haysville.
As the grain empty rolls through Orient Yard (going over the 10 MPH speed limit), I begin pacing as 9394 passes under a light.
After getting the grab shot at the hump, I headed down to Orient Yard for some more shots. Here’s a grab still I got at the east end of the yard before doing some pacing. I wasn’t too satisfied with this still, so I would make it a point to redeem it later.
After receiving a heads up that a BNSF thundercab ACe was about to lead a grain train down the K&O, I raced to the tracks, but I only made it to the hump with enough time to grab a DSLR video of BNSF 9394 accelerating westbound with the long cut of earthworm hoppers.
SD70ACe 9394 is the third unit on a northbound coal drag parked on a yard track at South Seattle. The train is likely waiting for a new crew to head further north. The boxy EMD beast was built in 2006, and is part of a series of SD70s built with non-isolated cabs, known as "Thundercabs." These units had noise levels so excessive in the cab that they were banned from leading trains on BNSF, hence why 9394 is third in this consist.
