1.7.1982 Jacksonville, FL. AMTK 629 SDP40F at the Jacksonville Amtrak station platform being shuffled by SCL SW9 #186. The Amtrak unit will be sold to Santa Fe in 3 years to become ATSF 5262. The switcher will leave SCL's roster in 20 months to be sold to PNC. It started life as ACL 704.

Now owned by Santa Fe, former AMTK 629 will be moved to San Bernardino shops and exit `s ATSF 5262 in April 1985.

This is Amtrak's eastbound San Francisco Zephyr, which the photographer rode from Ogden to Omaha. Shown here taking fuel and water at Cheyenne, the two SDP40Fs are trailed by eight cars, a baggage, bag-dorm, two coaches, a lounge, a diner and two sleepers. A dome-coach will be added at Denver.
