Two KCS trains occupy the mains at Kendleton Yard southwest of Houston awaiting a chance to get into Space City. Its a long wait these days, I hear.

The day had been one of dodging clouds, the sun in and out. I had hoped to get the panoramic shot from old US 59 of the grain trains DPU north of Westville, but the sun wasnt cooperating. We see the DPU in the shadows, along with some local livestock(descendants of JJ Young's inflatable cows!!) and a flowery meadow.

I heard a southbound coming into town and beat it for Westville, since thats usually where I can catch up to the train. When I got there, no train, so I started working back north. It turned out to be a southbound TXUX coal train that had stopped at Watts to look for a hot box that had a hit on the detector, and the crew was walking the train. I got the DPU, a mix of KCS, KCSM and BNSF power at the north end of town. It would be a fruitful, but short, chase today, finally in some sun after two weeks of gloom.

NS train DAAT rolls toward Atlanta, after running on the KCS from Dallas to Meridian, then onto NS. It will terminate at Austell shortly. JB Hunt is a big user of this train, as you can see from the consist.
