This 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive was built by Alco-Schenectady in januarty of 1920 as Fort Worth & Denver City #552 (serial #61071, class F-3A1). The loco lasted until being sold for scrap in September of 1952 after nearly 32 years of service. Specs - 74" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 27x28" cylinders, engine wt of 283,000 lb and tractive effort of 42,200 lb. When delivered, the F-3-A tenders carried 3,200 US gallons (12,112 litres) of fuel oil. Their boilers were set at 180 psi (12.4 bar), but soon reset to 200 psi. Unfortunately, no date, location or photographer was listed for this b&w photo which is now part of my collection. Approximate location and date were used. |
