Colorado & Southern E5A #9952A was originally Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) #9911A, named "SILVER PILOT," before being sold to the C&S and renumbered. It was built in 1940 and ran the Texas Zephyr train between Dallas and Denver, with a notable passenger stop captured in a 1963 photograph in Amarillo, Texas. The locomotive has been preserved and is now maintained and operated by the Illinois Railway Museum. Unfortunately no photographer was listed for the photo. |

The Illinois Ray Museum maintains this beautiful example of an E5A model. Eventually, the museum restored the loco to its original CB&Q number and name, #9911A Silver Pilot. It powers the museum's Nebraska Zephyr articulated train set, and is one of the few remaining examples of an early E-unit locomotive. Unfortunately, no photographer was listed for this nice roster shot. |
