No records on this one
Title:  No records on this one
Description:  So in doing a little research on this old photo, I was a bit surprised to find that there dont seem to any other shots of this switcher from around this era. While the colors are clearly CB&Q, the barely visible number on the cab was its BN designation (though not to be confused with the later BN76 - ex SLSF SW7 301). By the time of this photo, however, it was no longer BN, but had been in service with Dundee Cement for nearly 10 years. It would continue on as such for some 8 years more before Dundee became Holcim Cement and this loco was re-designated GNAX 1. But while it was a Dundee workhorse, there are no records that I can find pertaining to reporting marks or locomotive number. Seems that for those 18 years it was just the Dundee switcher.

Action in Clarksville
Title:  Action in Clarksville
Description:  The Mississippi River town of Clarksville MO is a pleasant place to watch trains; it's on the BNSF "K-Line" and sees a good amount of traffic, a lot of which is coal. The touristy downtown features antique shops, a trackside park on the river and an elevated observation area for the adjacent lock and dam facility. (and the Purple Martins didn't seem to mind the train much either!)

Holcim Cement no1
Title:  Holcim Cement no1
Description:  Holcim Cement SW1 no1 sits on the siding along the BNSF at the Clarksville plant, which is located just north of Clarksville MO at a point called Dundee by the railroad. The plant was opened by Dundee Cement Co in 1967, became Holnam Cement in 1988 and Holcim in 2001. The 71 year-old SW1 was built for the Burlington and served for a stint with the Missouri & Illinois Bridge & Belt RR at Alton before returning to the CB&Q. It was given number 76 by the BN, retired in 9/70 and sold to Dundee Cement for this location. Over the following 40 some-odd years it received roller bearings, replacement headlights and a white paint job whose stripes vaguely follow what it wore while in Burlington switcher black. Holcim announced the closure of the Clarksville plant in 2009; it has also had an SW900 and several side-rod GEs here over the years. The last GE appears to have left for points unknown while the SW900 was still present at the dead plant as of mid-2014.
