Amtrak PO 98 crosses over State Road 20.
Title:  Amtrak PO 98 crosses over State Road 20.
Description:  This is the west side of the bridge. As of 1/02/11 the west side has been painted over. The ACL RR letters are gone on this side. However, the east side of this bridge still has ACL RR showing as of 2/04/09. Back on 12-17-1991, Amtrak 310 derailed and overturned just north of this location. At 11:25 a.m. on December 17, 1991, Amtrak train 87, derailed at milepost A697.6 in Palatka, Florida. Train 87 consisted of a locomotive and eight cars; the locomotive and first six cars derailed. The derailment occurred while train 87 was negotiating a 66' curve to the right (west). The derailed equipment struck two homes and blocked the street north of the Palatka station.

Description:  This is essentially the icon of Palatka station. Another small reminder of a long forgotten railroad past. Palatka was an ACL station, a good 30 miles from todays FEC. There once was a connection between the two railroads here though.
