RENFE high speed trains in Spain

RENFE high speed trains in Spain

Description:

The Class 120/121 trainsets are dual-voltage, dual-gauge units capable of changing gauge without stopping at 30 kph /19 mph. Twelve units were ordered in 2001, and a further 45 units in 2004. Power output is 4 MW under 25 kV AC and 2.7 MW under 3 kV DC. The Class 121, as in picture 121 023, has no first class seats and therefore a higher capacity of 282 seats instead of 238 with the Class 120.

Renfe decided that the Class 252 series had to be compatible with all this inrastructural parameters. This has resulted in a batch being a mix of single- and multi-system electrics, continuously changing bogies, changing gauge width.

Spain: High-Performance Universal Locomotive S 252

Description:

252 072 at Sagunt station. In the background Sagunto Castle, it is a fortress overlooking the town of Sagunt, near Valencia in Spain. The site's history extends back over two thousand years and includes Iberian, Roman and medieval remains. During the Islamic period, the castle was known as Murbitar and Morvedre. The castle was declared a National Monument in 1931.

Spain: High-Performance Universal Locomotive S 252

Description:

The Talgo VII introduced beginning in 2000 is used as a Class 252 locomotive-pulled train set. They have an air-controlled hydraulic brake system and power supply from head end power (supplied by 252) instead of diesel engine-generators in the end cars.
