This 1908 Alco-Brooks built 2-6-2 Prairie style steam locomotive is still working the rails here in Green Bay, WI, in early 1950. Time is running out for the loco however as nearly all the class will be gone by 1955. Originally numbered 5522, it was renumbered in 1938. Donald Ross photo

With just a few months left before being retired and relegated to the scrap line in October of 1953, MLW #1068 was still working in July of 1953. Baldwin built this ten wheeler in August of 1903 originally as CM&StP Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #427 (serial #22748, class B4). Starting in June of 1907, the loco was renumbered #1777 > in October of 1912 to #4377 > in November of 1917, it was rebuilt simplified and renumbered #2927 > in November of 1920 to #2885 > finally in June of 1938, it was renumbered one more time to MILW #1068. After nearly 51 years of dedicated service, the poor loco was scrapped in July of 1954. Rail fan Guhr took this photo which is now in my rr collection.

Still working in freight service is MILW 4-6-0 #1068 but a year later it would be scrapped in June of 1954. Originally built by Baldwin in August of 1903 as CM&StP Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #427, it had many numbers during its nearly 51 years of service - renumbered in 6/1907 to #1777, renumbered in 10/1912 to #4377, renumbered and simplified in 11/1917 to #2927, renumbered in 11/1920 to #2885, renumbered in 6/1938 to #1068. Nice original photo of the H.K. Porter 0-4-0T Pullman Co RR tank switcher taken by rr engineer C.W. Burns while visiting the National RR Museum up in Green Bay, WI. Since that time, the little loco has seemingly disappeared from sight. Does anyone know of its dispostion? Please leave a comment so it can be added to this page.

Caught by C.W. Burns at the National Ry Museum in Green Bay, WI, this 1923 Alco-Schenectady built Pacific has been preserved after years of service for the SOO Line. This is an H-23 class with 75" drivers, developing a respectable boiler pressure of 200 psi for its 25"x26" cylinders (diameter & stroke). The engine weight is 281,080 lb and it could create a tractive effort 36,833 lb. Since this 1968 photo, the engine has been moved to a more sheltered location at the museum.

This was the first RS27 produced by Alco

MILW H10-44 781, Green Bay, Wisconsin on an unknown day in September 1971, photo by Joe Stauber, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built as number 1823 in March 1950 (c/n 10L328), classed as 10-FS, it was retired in May 1980. The Milwaukee Road rostered 20 H10-44's, including the first one built.
