Built by Baldwin in July of 1913, this 2-8-2 Mikado served the Lehigh Valley in many capacities, but primarily in passenger service as first. It was photographed here at the passenger platform at Lehighton, PA. Specs - serial #40204, N-2 class, 56" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 322,000 lb, tractive effort of 59,752 lb. Unknown photographer.

Originally built as LV 4-6-2C camelback #2006 by Baldwin in 1906, the loco was rebuilt in December of 1921 into a conventional cab LV 4-6-2 #2034 (class K-3). The loco lasted until being scrapped in July of 1950. Charles Winters photo

Location and Date Unknown

Built by the Budd Company on August 23, 1951, this was a newer version of the original doodlebug concept in providing light passenger service in an economical way to branch lines. LV RDC1 #40 was one of only two (LV #41 the other) that Lehigh Valley tried out. It spent its years on the low capacity passenger service on the Hazelton area branch lines. After only 11 years, LV #40 was sold to the Reading in 1962, then to Septa and today is preserved at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania. No photographer was listed for the phot0.

Running lead is LV 304 with its sister, #303, trailing behind as they pull a line of fjeight cars. Note a couple of F B-units behind as well. Built by EMD between April-June, 1960, these locos survived the ConRail merger only to be sold several times to private companies.

Ex-CNJ crossed the ex-LV at Lehighton interlocking.

Making the uphill climb near Lehighton, PA, is Conrail SD40-2 #6499 in the lead. Built by EMD in August of 1979, it was sent to the Norfolk Southern roster as #3411 after the CR breakup. Pennsylvania rail fan Frank Spieles took this action shot.

Heading up a four unit lashup is Norfolk Southern C36-7 #8537. Originally built by GE in May of 1984 as NS C36-7 #8537, this loco would eventually be sold to MRS Logistica around 2007 as their #3828. This is a Frank Spieles photo now in my rr collection.

Standing on the old Jersey Central main I lensed H75 performing some local work at Lehighton.

The former LV was ripped up around the mid 80's, however a reminder that track once stood here witnessed by the signal lit up displaying stop for a westbound movement at CP-Lehighton interlocking. This once proud signal now displays an indication for a train that will never come.
