This Baltimore & Ohio 2-8-2 Mikado #4430 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1921 (serial #54677). It serverd the needs of the B&O well in both freight and passenger service. Late in its life, it was renumbered B&O 418 in 1957 to make room on the roster for the incoming diesels. The loco met the scrapper's torch in Chicago, IL in July of 1959. Specs - Q-4 class, 64" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 327,400 lb, tractive effort of 63,200 lb. No exact date in 1945 was given and no photographer was listed.

Excellent example of the the re-engineered and rebuilt K1sa class seen here at the Connellsville roundhouse getting an inspection by the yard crew. The Reading shops took ten of the N1sa 2-8-8-2's (#1800-1809) to rebuild as 2-10-2 Santa Fe type locos for freight service between 1927-29. Specs - new class K1sa, 62" drivers, 220 psi, 30.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 439,900 lb, impressive tractive effort of 89,794 lb. All ten in the class were retired and scrapped in 1954. R.D. This Santa Fe-type locomotive along with its sister #6202 also in the album was built by Baldwin in 1926 as a class S-1a. It had 64" drivers, developed 220 psi, engine wt of 436,810 and overall wheelbase of engine+tender of 89.9'. Photo was by Max Miller.

This solid looking 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in May of 1926 as BO #6222. In 1951, the loco was rebuilt with a solid frame, light weight pistons, rods and crossheads and reclassified as S-1b, one of only two to get this special test rebuild. In 1956, it was renumbered BO 538. After nearly 33 years of dedicated service to the B&O, the loco was scrapped in 1959. Ralph G. Dunn collection

Built by Baldwin in August of 1913 as BO 2-8-2 Mikado #4260 (serial #40327), it served the B&O for nearly 42 years until being retired and scrapped in February of 1955 at Glenwood, OH. Specs - Q-1c class, 64" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 284,500 lb, tractive effort of 54,600 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

A note on the back of the photo states "Shot of the day - - - B&O 2-8-2's #4605 and 4603 blast into Connellsville with an Eastbound drag from Pittsburgh." Nice double-header photo.
