Alco-Schenectady built this massive 4-6-2 Pacific type loco in October of 1930 as Chicago, St Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha #602 (serial #68518, class E-3). This was the last one of 3 in the last class of Pacifics built for the CMO. According to one on-line source, these were the heaviest Pacifics to be built for any railroad. It lasted on the roster for nearly 25 years before being scrapped in 1955Specs - serial #68518, E-3 class, massive 75" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 347,000 lb and 51,567 lb tractive effort. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo which is now part of my rr collection. Approximate location and date were used for posting. |
