MCR 2-6-2 #9 - McCloud River RR |
| Description: |
We found it interesting to find two McCloud River RR steam locomotives together in the Age of Steam Roundhouse collection. Baldwin built this 2-6-2 Prairie type steam locomotive in January of 1901 as CMR #9 (serial #18596). Original specs - 44' drivers, modest 160 psi boiler pressure, 16x24" cylidners, modest engine wt of 107,000 lb and modest tractive force of 19,000 lb. |

MCR 2-6-2 #9 - McCloud River RR |
| Description: |
The loco turned out to be a boomer one having bounced from one roster to another during its service record. After 38 years with the McCloud River RR, it bounced to the Yreka Western RR #9 in 1939 > in 1944 to Amador Central RR #9 > in 1945 to Nez Perce & Idaho RR #9. After years in hauling lumber, the loco landed a tourist train job on the Kettle Moraine line. After it was forced to close down in 2001, it eventually was sold to Jerry Jacobson for the Roundhouse on August 25, 2015. |

MCR 2-8-2 #19 - McCloud River RR |
| Description: |
We found McCloud River 2-8-2 #19 in the repair shop undergoing an involved rebuild since its purchase in 2017. The loco was built by Baldwin in April 9, 1915 originally as Caddo & Choctaw RR 2-8-2 Mikado #4 for the Arkansas logging company (serial #42000). It wore a coat of olive green paint on its wheels, tender, domes, pilot and cab and had a planished iron boiler jacket, black smoke box and firebox with gold lettering and striping. Its cab sides carried the name R.L. Rowan for Rufus Lee Rowan, an engineer on the Caddo & Choctaw. Original specs - 48" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 20x28" cylinders, engine wt of 178,400 lb and tractive force of 35,700 lb. |

MCR 2-8-219 - McCloud River RR |
| Description: |
Within a year of being built, the Caddo & Choctaw RR sold the loco to the United Mining & Smelting Company where it operated in Pachuca, Mexico. It was repainted black and re-lettered for the Cia de Real del Monte y Pachuca as its No. 105. After a four-year career in Mexico, the No. 105 was again sold to the McCloud River Railroad in northern California, which renumbered it to No. 19. The engine worked in regular service at McCloud until purchased by the Yreka Western three decades later. Part-time, it served in the summer heading up a tourist train in Oregon. In 2016 after a financial collapse of the YW, the loco was auctioned off and Jerry Jacobson bought the loco for his Age of Steam collection. Crews are currently replacing portions of the engine’s firebox in preparation for a return to operation. Oregon Pacific & Eastern has allowed the loco to be labeled as such - hinting back to its tourist train days. |

MCR 2-8-2 #19 - McCloud River RR |
| Description: |
MCR #19 has several notable points - in both numerical oddities and celeb status. First, MCR #19 was the 42,000th locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works (note the builder plate). Secondly, MCR #19 was the 19th steam locomotive that Jerry Jacobson purchased for his collection. Thirdly, it is the second MCR steam loco on the Age of Steam Roundhouse roster - unusual for such a small MCR roster to land two together on the AOFR roster. Lastly, the loco starred in two movies while in Oregon with the YW - "Emperor of the North" and "Stand By Me". |
