Even though I grew up with a facination for trains, this is where everything really took off. It was 1980 that I ran across this yard (then The N&W), just out driving the back roads. Thats where an old high school friend / train enthusiest and I hung out learning)the activities of the yard. It was here that I saw my first SD45's(NW highnoses) and the SD40-2; work horse of the N&W. Groing up in Harrisonburg with The C&W, I was used to Alco T6's in the 70's and GP units(NW) in the late 70's. Needless to say I was like a id at an airport!!! This album will be on-going as plan to make more trips in the future.
I hope to get an envite some day. Until that time, I avoid wreckless temptation and let the zoom lens do the tresspassing!
U see 6107 found its way back to Shenandoah from Harrisonburg.
This view is looking south. The main line take them to Elkton, Va. (7miles) where they either continue on to Roanoke or switch R. and proceed to Harrisonburg.
The C40-9W is to NS what the SD40-2 was to NW.
The white tank cars (CORX) belong to The Coor's Facility just south of Elkton.
Arriving from Harrisonburg.
None of these units were running!
