BNSF's ex BN Yard in Minneapolis/Fridley hosts the WC Transfer,SOO,UP, and Amtrak.
The seemingly daily Itasca train heads for home rails, while its counterpart is nearing University, to head back up.
A pretty good looking 60M trails today.
Three UP EMD's head for Itasca.
Trailing.
1...2...4...6..9..10!!!! Yup, ten units , 9 SD40-2s with a lone SD60 head for the Chicago area. Behind the 6051 though, all is silent. These SD40-2's are being stored/retired.
3rd of 10.
4th of 10.
5th of 10.
6th of 10.
7th of 10.
8th of 10.
9th of 10.
The last of 10 units, 8 of them dead in tow.
Two Geeps notch up on the crooked track in the T Yard.
A former GP35 leads the "slot machine" past 35th Ave.
A wonderful Northtown-Galesburg train departs town with three EMD's elephant, and the middle unit as the cherry on top.
A good old L&N SD40-2 is the pickle...err, CSX in the middle today.
A little cab and truck detail for you modelers.
Still looking relatively nice in YN2.
Trailing.
The third unit on the NTW-KCK.
The lighting was a bit shady (pun intended), but I still had to post a shot of the whole power lineup.
The one and only leads the KCK this morning!
A nice sight is the last unit today. Love these standard cab C40-8's!
Idling in the T Yard.
A pair of GP39 models drag a decent manifest into the yard at Northtown.
The BN-CP rolls past a pair of GE's getting refueled near the former caboose track near the Hump Tower.
A nice consist departs Northtown with a money dumping special, baretables.
Dissapearing quickly, but still somewhat common around here, are the mighty BN SD40-2's. Even though they are being shipped to storage, Im still adding more to my roster.
How to get screwed out of a shot at Northtown 101: First thing, make sure your fully ready and excited for the train at hand. Second, take a few test shots, making sure your exposure is correct, and your shot level. Third, get ready to cuss at one of the pullout jobs.........
The NTWGAL has an all foreign consist this morning, with two Black Beauties and a Candy Apple SD60.
A H2 C40-8W heads a stacktrain with an H1 Dash 9 helping out.
What Im guessing is the left over PASGAL train departs off of D1 with an awesome power set, complete with a Whiteface SD40-2 trailing.
Former BN.
A Pinstriped Whiteface is the third motor on the second Northtown-Galesburg of the day.
The lead C40-8 (or as NS calls them, D8-40C's...).....
The trailing EMD.
When EMD's are idling, and next to the idle are units load testing, all 70's EMD's tonight, folks. A night to remember, sounds to cherish, every sunrise, every sunset, stuff is always changing and dissapearing....
Although a piece of fence is included in this image, the sound and circumstance was too much to ignore. In the land of widecabs, even GEVO's to say it simpler, when you have none present, its exactly that, a gift. After this night, I saw both of these units leave town on trains, the 7922 left on the TACBLU, and the 7146 had the NTWKCK.
For the two FURX units trailing the GP60 pair. While I notice the importance of this move, the engineer is totally oblivious as he jokes around with another shop employee, to him its just another night.
Although the consist is in motion, only two engines are doing anything, and its safe to say thats its not the two Green SD40-2's with their exhaust covered.
Now in the line with the 7259, the 1722 is just another silent engine, one of thousands across the US.
