Partially visible in the left background is Altoona's 17th Street Bridge. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded.

They're rounding a curve with a passenger train and heading up the Allegheny Mountains to the summit at Gallitzin, where the "Pacific" will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for another assignment. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #9430 is a BS-10AM constructed in May of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' somewhere in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Pennsylvania.
