Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Visible in the foreground is Kittanning Point Road, which leads to the Curve. At the left is one of Altoona's reservoirs. Visible through the mist are the Pennsylvania Railroad's tracks and K-4S #1361. (#1 of 21)

Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956 after amassing over 2,469,000 revenue miles, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service. They're serving as tail-end pushers on a 99-car mixed-cargo freight train that's on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. They've come down the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a merchandise freight train and are passing under the 12th Street Footbridge on their way to the Enola Yards. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as front-end helpers in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866 is an EFP-15 built in August of 1952. #9852-B is an EFP-15 built in June of 1952 and retired in October of 1967. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in March of 1950. And #9860 is an EFP-15 built in July of 1952. They're threading the interlocking at 14th Street with a 95-car iron-ore train on their way to the Hollidaysburg Branch turnout, after which they'll follow the New Portage Branch line up the Allegheny Mountains ~ via the Muleshoe Curve ~ to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Pittsburgh.
