The lovely repainted SD45-2 in Santa Fe Bicentennial colors rolls through Los Nietos back towards Los Angeles under it's old number and ID, ATSF 5704. The loco dead in tow is going to wait at Commerce until the connection track is reinstalled.

Trailing the Westbound BNSF ZLPKLAC Beautifully Restored Santa Fe SD45-2 5704 rolls thru San Bernardino where the Engine was once rebuilt for the Santa Fe heads for its new home The Southern California Railway Museum. Originally planned to be Scrapped Special thanks to those that saved and restored the Unit.

Two years of road service has taken its toll on the once shiny paint scheme and a trip to the paint booth is only a few months away. But ATSF 5704 and this paint scheme will now live at the SCRM in Perris. Hopefully one day ATSF 5704 can return to Fullerton to remind a new generation of railfans what being trackside was like in the mid-1970s. Congratulations to all who participated in preserving this fine reminder of our past.
Sometimes an westbound freight had to wait just short of Fullerton depot for passenger trains to and from San Diego. Today ATSF 5704 West gets a few minutes of down time waiting for traffic ahead to clear. By this late date in the R/W/B era it's worth being a few minutes late to class in order to get a few photos.
ATSF 5704 was delivered in May 1973.
All the passengers have departed as ATSF 5704 rolls past Fullerton depot at track speed with the eastbound Super C.
