PRR 7140, EFS-17M, 1965
Title:  PRR 7140, EFS-17M, 1965
Description:  7th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1965. Prominent here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7140 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7140 was built in June of 1957. They've pulled a mixed-cargo freight train to a point midway between the 7th Street Bridge (not shown) and the 4th Street Bridge (visible in the distance), but have stopped to await orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The smokestacks mark the location of the Car Shops' Power House.

PRR 5706, EP-22, 1965
Title:  PRR 5706, EP-22, 1965
Description:  7th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1965. Prominent here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5706 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5706 is an EP-22 built in October of 1952, rated at 2,250 horsepower, and later owned by the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad. This A-B-A set is about to pass under the 7th Street Bridge with a passenger train and will soon stop at the Altoona Station on its way to Pittsburgh and points West. In the background, a mixed-cargo freight train headed by PRR engine #7140 awaits orders to proceed.

Also visible (L to R) are some of what used to be the PRR's Passenger Car Shop buildings (now occupied by Lithcote, a tank car refurbishing company), the steel Water Tower (the last vestige of the Age of Steam in this photo), as well as the new 4th Street Footbridge and the PRR's Altoona Yards beyond it. The floodlight tower at the right once illuminated the 1939 World's Fair in New York!
