Description:  24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2219, #7008, #7147, and #7230. All were built by GM-EMD. #2219 is an EF-22 built in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #7008, #7147, and #7230 are EFS-17M's rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7008 was built in October of 1955, #7147 in October of 1957, and #7230 in October of 1959. They've just come down the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a TrucTrain, and are now passing SLOPE Tower on their way through Altoona non-stop to Enola. Partially visible in the background is the 24th Street Bridge. Wave to the Engineman!

Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1964. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2230, #7044, #2208, and #2219. All were built by GM-EMD. #2230, #2208, and #2219 are EF-22's and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #2230 was built in April of 1963, while #2219 and #2208 were built in March of 1963. #7044 is an EFS-17M built in December of 1955 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They're passing under the 17th Street Bridge with a 48-car merchandise freight on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The cabin car is number #477714.

Description:  4th Street. Here is the fourth of four successive original photos that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1964. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2217, #2211, #2219, #2206, and #2245. All are EF-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #2217, #2211, #2219, and #2206 were built in March of 1963, while #2245 was built in May of 1963. In this context, they're about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge with an 80-car TrucTrain bound for Enola and points East. The cabin car is #477866. At the right are two westbound freight trains awaiting orders to proceed, along with two passenger cars marshalled for reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Standing tall is the steel Water Tower, last vestige of the Age of Steam. Visible in the center distance, beyond the 7th Street Bridge, are some of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.
