| Description: |
24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5850, #5803, and #5849. All were built by GM-EMD. #5850 and #5849 are EP-20's built in August of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5803 is an EP-22 built in July of 1952 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. This A-A-A set has just come down the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a 27-car mail & express train, and is about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge before stopping at the Passenger Station for a crew change. The smokestacks of Altoona's Brick Plant are visible in the right center of the photo. |

PRR E7 5849 |
| Description: |
PRR E7 5849 at about 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois on May 9, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The E7 was built August 30, 1947 (c/n 3985) on EMD Order E745, became PRR 4209 and later PC 4209. Based on my fading memory, this is between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, so this could be either Train #48, The General, due out of Union Station at 4:15 PM, or it might be Train #28, The Broadway Limited, due out at 5:00 PM. |
