CNW 8042 NORTH
Title:  CNW 8042 NORTH
Description:  A northbound CNW train on the DM&E. This train is detouring on the former M&StL between Albert Lea and Waseca due to a derailment on the Spine Line. At Waseca the train will head west to Mankato on the former Alco Line and then turn north on the old Omaha to the Twin Cities. This was the second C&NW detour train I witnessed using this route while I worked for the DM&E at Waseca from 1990 thru 1993.

CNW SD60 #8042 - Chicago & North Western
Title:  CNW SD60 #8042 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  Built in September 1986 by EMD, the Chicago & North Western (CNW) 8042 was part of a 55-unit order (8001–8055) originally intended for the Soo Line before being cancelled and taken over by CNW. This lineage explains why the unit features unique stainless steel "kickplates" on its nose, a specific Soo Line detail. In June 1992, the 8042 was involved in a major derailment at the intersection of the CNW Old Line and New Line in St. Francis, Wisconsin, where it nose-dived into the ballast. Following the 1995 merger, it was acquired by Union Pacific and renumbered as UP 5994. It was later retired by UP and operated as HCLX 5994 for Helm Financial before being sold to Norfolk Southern (NS) as NS 6527. It was eventually rebuilt by Norfolk Southern into an SD60E (specifically NS 6927), featuring a new "Crescent" cab for improved safety and visibility. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now in my rr collection.
