After I took this picture, two young ladies walked across this bridge and commented on the view saying, "Wouldn't it be nice to get a picture of a train here?" I didn't have the heart to tell them. They took pictures with their cell phones, nonetheless. |

| Description: |
Although a piece of fence is included in this image, the sound and circumstance was too much to ignore. In the land of widecabs, even GEVO's to say it simpler, when you have none present, its exactly that, a gift. After this night, I saw both of these units leave town on trains, the 7922 left on the TACBLU, and the 7146 had the NTWKCK. |

No more grain here |
| Description: |
Well, more grain, just none of it by rail. Many smaller elevators did not have enough volume to keep rail service competitive once unit trains became prevalent, and the railroads didnt help matters by pricing the small moves so that they were uneconomical. Elevators like this could not keep up and went to trucks. The trucks went to elevators that could take advantage of volume rates, driving off business. That allowed many lightly trafficked branches to be abandoned, such as this ex Santa Fe line in Hardtner Kan. |

Hill Job |
| Description: |
As I'was coming down I35 into Duluth, I saw a loaded taconite train heading down grade towards the ore docks. So I made the quick decision to try and beat it to the docks. Thankfuqly, I made it in time, and was able to get this shot. Little did I know at the time, but I knew the engineer! The engineer is none other then John Tuttle who used to work outof New Brighton last year as a conductor. This was quite the colorful lashup too! |

Budapest Keleti Trainshed |
| Description: |
Like many big city stations around the world, Keleti is large and monumental, and has a large arched ceiling over the main concourse. It's a beautiful station, underneath all the grime, and the only thing that I dislike about it is that it doesn't appear to have central heating, or at least none which is particularly effective. As a result, I was freezing when I took this. |

CB&Q Class LO-2C 87551 |
| Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class LO-2C 87551 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from Burlington Route Historical Society's Bulletin 20, COVERED HOPPERS, edited by Hol Wagner: Quite pleased with the performance of the Airslide cars, the Burlington continued to place regular orders for lots of 50 or 60 more of the 2,600 cubic-foot cars through the early 1960's. Following the 60 Class LO-2B cars of 1960 came 50 LO-2C's in 1961 ( Q 87550 - 87599 ) and 50 LO-2D's in 1962 ( Q 87600 - 87639 and C&S 810 - 819 ). A couple of tiny spotting features differentiate these cars. First, the vibrator brackets of the 1961 cars and all subsequent Airslides are mounted on oval pads somewhat larger than the rectangular pads used on all previous production. Then, on the 1962 cars, the number of rivets employed on the vertical channel braces at the ends of each car side is reduced considerably from previous standard practice; where earlier cars have 26 rivets per channel brace, the 1962 LO-2D's have but 12, and the bottom connection to the side sill is welded rather than riveted. Trivial differences, but interesting nonetheless. |

NH 529 |
| Description: |
529 emits a large white cloud, a sign that it needs some work. The RS-3 got a good "going-over" not long after this, with the aid of none other than "Mr. Alco" himself, the late George Hockaday. The 529, since then, just emits a small gray puff upon starting, and has been "Old reliable", until just about a month ago, when she finally suffered an eddy current clutch failure. As soon as some alignment problems are straightened out, she should be back in service. |

| Description: |
While I waited for CP 171 at Azelia Ave, I heard a horn behind me. I checked the light and it was a red over a flashing red, and there was a route lined up for the pass track at Humboldt. Minutes later, a train came around the corner, and I then got this shot. Right after I took this, I saw that the engineer was none other then Dean! |
