Ron Moraca General Joe, the most common roadkill here in the Bitterroot Valley in western MT is deer, primarily whitetails. BNSF and MRL trains often hit them, too, from what I hear, statewide. I'd have never expected to see them around Gary, IN, but pictures don't lie. You were sure in the right place at the right time! Great photo, my friend! 5/11/2008 11:39:52 PM
Mike Rapchak Jr. General Ron, there are a lot of deer in the Pine Junction area (which CSX calls Curtis). Lots of woods, wetlands, etc. That deer is heading for a state nature preserve just south of the tracks. The freight may not even be moving (it's westbound on the CSX main; trains often hold there for a considerable length of time). :) 7/16/2008 9:52:47 PM
Joe Usselman General Mike, the train was stopped, but not for long. The conductor even got out for a minute to take a picture of the deer. 8/31/2008 11:28:49 PM
