N&W Temporatry Commuter Station March 1975  Contributor's Pick!
When Amtrak took over intercity trains Dearborn Station was closed leaving the N&W (ex-Wabash) commuter train to Orland Park without a downtown terminal. An outdoor track was utilized. The train can be seen in the lower portion of the photo with the Geep in the lower-left corner and the train diagonally upward. The train was eventually moved to Union Station. The photo is from Sears Tower. I wish it were better.

Bob Lalich General Marty, the N&W Orland Park commuter train in this photo is on the former Wabash freight house track. The freight house was located at the SE corner of Polk and Clark, and was demolished sometime after the new freight house was built near 47th St. The train shed on the left side of the photo is Dearborn. The LaSalle St. station approach tracks can just bee seen in the very lower right corner of this photo. 11/21/2007 8:06:21 AM
