The Engineer Enjoys the Ride on a Nice Spring Morning  Contributor's Pick!
This is Rock Island's version of EMD's BL2. BL stood for "branch line" because the unit was lighter than a GP7. Here 17 year old number 429 is filling out its life in commuter service with a northbound morning rush hour train at Englewood Union Station on the south side of Chicago.

Robert Anderson General Crisp profile. This shows how unbelievebly small the actual cab is. The eng room door is right behind the side door. That rear facing window is really over a steep stair case going down to the eng room floor. Cab is from door handle to windshield. To get by engr seat to cab,it had to be turned sideways because control cabinet also protruded forward. Just the opposite senario from DL109 621 "Cristine". You could almost put a living room suite in there. Many fun rides and memories here. Thanks again Marty. 4/12/2018 12:33:58 AM
