Monon Depot, Wanatah, Indiana
The Micihigan City Branch was once a hopeful piece of the Monon Railroad which planned to expand into the Kentucky coal fields and ship coal back to the Great Lakes via this line. Unfortunatly, the Monon was stopped dead at the Kentucky border and the plans to ship coal north died. The last day of operation on the MC Branch was Apil 18, 1981, about 3 1/2 years after thiese photos were taken. The diamond with the former Pennsy (then Conrail) was ripped up shortly after the Branch closed. The station was torn down after that.. This is an image from a Richard "Dick" Berry negative.

Tom Beckett General Must have been an attractive little station in its day. I imagine there's nothing there at all now, probably not even a concrete pad, though I think the ex Pennsy is still active, now the CF&E. I rode that when on the Broadway in 1978; too bad I didn't get a shot then. 8/31/2024 5:45:20 AM
