Texas & Pacific E8A 30
In this undated photo from the early 1960’s, Texas & Pacific E8A 30 and an unidentified F7B were parked on a ready track at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. At this time, the MP-TP had recently introduced an all-blue paint scheme and a unified numbering system. The 30 was originally T&P 2010, the first of eight T&P E8A units; while the F7B was one of four such T&P units (881B-884B) equipped with steam generators and high-speed (77 MPH) gearing. These locomotives had arrived here in the morning on the LOUISIANA EAGLE, the overnight train from Fort Worth, and would be returning west that evening. F7’s were frequently used on this train until they were replaced by GP7’s. (date of photo unknown)
