UP 3448 East UP Detour over SP Donner Pass

Randy Curlin	General	UP suffered tremendous rock slides and washouts from the 1986 Valentines Day storm. As a result UP detoured over Donner. SP restricted traffic to 4K tons, 6 or more working units (no SP helpers) and a working caboose as SP did not have talking defect detectors (yet-1988 SP went cabooseless). UP still had trains stall going over Donner and had trouble finding working cabooses.	6/10/2023 4:12:46 AM

Randy Curlin	General	UP borrowed CNW cabooses until SP banned them for safety issues- no working radios, faulty marker lights and no toilets.	6/10/2023 4:15:20 AM
