Here is a photo by William S. Young that was taken near South Amboy, New Jersey, in July of 1957. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3747 and an unidentified AP-20 diesel-electric locomotive. #3747 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in November of 1957 after 37 years of faithful service. In this context, they've just departed the South Amboy Passenger Station with a southbound commuter train. Gary Mittner Collection. |
