Switching at Balmer
BNSFs Balmer Yard hums with activity. As a switcher at the north end of the hump yard finishes its work, another switcher drills the bottom end bowl tracks. The string of intermodal cars on the siding is most likely waiting for power to take it up the Cascades. The yard was built by the Great Northern Railway, who then passed it on to their successor, Burlington Northern. The yard came under BNSF control in 1995, when BN merged with the Santa Fe.
