NPCU In The Lead
Amtrak 90250 leads a southbound Cascades service into Tukwila station. 90250 was built in 1977 as an F40PHR, using parts from trade-in SDP40Fs. When the F40s were bumped from mainline duties by GE Genesis locomotives, this unit was rebuilt without and engine as an Non-powered control unit (NPCU). This unit has been assigned to the Amtrak Cascades service for several years at this point, and is leading a set of Horizon cars today.
