| Here is the third of six original photos by Robert Hopkins that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. Shown here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapod" steam locomotive pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona. Perhaps it's just my imagination, but it sure looks as if this "Hippo" ~ not to mention the entire Age of Pennsy Steam ~ is dematerializing before our very eyes! |
