Amtrak and BNSF Crowd The South End
The south end of the Vancouver yard is hopping with activity. Preparing to depart the station is Amtrak Cascades #504. The Vancouver Center signal bridge (right) shows green-over-red, giving permission for the train to depart. The train will take the northbound main track (Seattle Subdivision Main 2) to its next stop at Kelso. Simultaneously, a grain train is entering the Vancouver wye from the east (out of frame). This train will follow the Amtrak northbound after a crew change. A yard switcher, BNSF 2236, drills the south end of the yard in the meantime (headlight visible at right). On a sidetrack, BNSF 2674 is fired up prior to its next assignment.
