PRR 4483, I-1SA, 1973
#4483. Here is an original 35mm color slide by Kevin Scanlon that was taken in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania, in May of 1973. Pictured adjacent to the Westinghouse Air Brake Plant (R to L) are ex-Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotive #4483 and the ex-PRR business car #7509 named "Ohio" built by Pullman-Standard in 1914. Engine #4483 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during May of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1931, and retired in August of 1957 after 34 years of faithful service. The signs of neglect and vandalism are quite evident.
