Burkey. Here is the second of two original photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. July of 1963. Prominent in the foreground are two handsome youngsters whose names are not recorded. Beyond them (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2229, #2508, and an "AF" Class unit whose road number is not recorded. #2229 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in April of 1963 and rated at 2,200 horsepower. while #2508 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in September of 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. In this context, they're rounding the Curve with a freight train that's on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Wave to the Fireman! (#22 of 25)
