| Interesting note on the back of this photo "No data available with the C. H. Heels photo. However . . . sign identifies location as Shields (MI45.62 Midland Sub, 2.95 miles west of Orillia); 20 mph slow order sign marks curve west of Shields, where speed limit was raised from 20 to 30 mph in June 1946; Passenger train is eastbound (away from curve); low sun suggests early morning and budding leaves suggest late April. Conculsion is that extra west (2-8-0's 2536 and 2566) is in the siding at Shields to meet train 42 (4-6-2 #5281), due at orillia at 7:15 am en route from Midland to Toronto. Smoke deflectors on #5261 suggest a spring date in the 1940's no later than 1946." This C. H. Heels photo came from the James A Brown collection. |
