CB&Q 9960CB in 1964  Contributor's Pick!
CB&Q 9960CB is seen working the eastbound tracks in Eola Yard on September 1, 1964. The 3-track mineline is mid-picture. This F3AB was part of three sets of ABA F3s bought in 1947 for new California Zephyr because the WP and DRG&W were going to use F units. Because they did not fit well into the E-unit rotation the Q used for intercity and suburban passenger trains, they were regeared for freight operation and their steam generators were removed. However, in this lashup, the third unit is an F7.

Ron Moraca General Awesome view of Enola Yard, Marty! The CB&Q had some strange practices where their locos were concerned. 10/8/2008 8:32:38 PM
