New tracks to Eureka yard in Houston. Fun fact, the road seen in the upper left of the image next to the white houses and to the right of the large white building was originally a RR ROW. MKT and then up until the UP had a line that ran between Eureka yard and Katy parallel to Interstate 10. That line was sold off in 1997 to TXDOT for the Katy freeway expansion project in the early 2000's. There are only a few pictures and videos known to exist of this seldom used and photographed line that is now completely gone. One would never know there was a rail line here due to the extreme change in the area over the last 2 decades such as new buildings, new homes, new infrastructure and most importantly the service road that sits on what used to be the railroad. It's nearly impossible to tell there was one there. |
