Volkmer. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 14 November 1958. Shown here are the Pennsylvania Railroad's Locomotive Ready Tracks, facing East. Prominent here is PRR engine #8658, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. To its right is PRR engine #9615, an AF-16 built by ALCo in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966. The numbers of the other locomotives pictured here ~ all of which are idling away ~ are not recorded. Partially visible in the background are Juniata's 17th Street Bridge, the venerable Water Tank, the East Altoona Roundhouse, and the Powerhouse smokestack. Produced and distributed by FJC Products of Newport, Delaware. ("PrrFan18n")
