L&N Train No. 7
Louisville & Nashville J-3 class 2-8-2 1586 was arriving at the New Orleans station with southbound train No. 7, the long-distance local from Montgomery, Alabama. The track the photographer was standing on belonged to Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans), as did the track to the right, then there were two L&N tracks and then several tracks belonging to the New Orleans Public Belt. The locomotive had been built by Alco’s Brooks Works (64778) in 1923 and was retired on 1 February 1954. (approximate date of photo)
