T&P 4-6-0 399
Texas & Pacific D-10s class 4-6-0 399 was on a westbound local running over the New Orleans Public Belt behind AUDUBON PARK in New Orleans. The train was on its way from the Texas Pacific-Missouri Pacific Terminal Railroad of New Orleans’ RACE STREET YARD to AVONDALE YARD, where it would pick up its cars. The 399 had been built as a D-10 class locomotive by Alco’s Cooke Works (44514) in October 1907, was rebuilt into a D-10s class loco in May 1917 and was retired in March 1952, after being replaced in local service by new EMD SW8’s 811-818. The 399 differed from most of the D-10s locos in that it had an Elesco feedwater heater and its tender rode on Economy high-speed drop-equalized trucks.
