| Recently-delivered Louisville & Nashville E8A units 794 and 796 were on train 34, the northbound PIEDMONT, in New Orleans on the Fourth of July 1951. The locomotives had been built in May 1951 and this was their first trip to New Orleans. The 794 was retired in April 1972 and became Amtrak 224, while the 796 was retired the next month and was used as trade-in credit with EMD. |
