IC Train No. 22
Illinois Central mail-and-express train No. 22 had just pulled out of Union Station in New Orleans and was about to cross South Claiborne Avenue. The train was passing a long-time landmark, the Louisiana Grain Corporation’s former J.T. Gibbons NEW BASIN ELEVATOR, while the building on the left with the hip roof was the IC company hospital at 714 Magnolia Street. Both of these buildings were razed around 1970 to make way for the LOUISIANA SUPERDOME. Locomotive 2445 was a 4-8-2 which had been built by Alco in 1926 and was retired in 1960.
