A pair of big Komatsu forklifts were preparing to remove New Orleans Regional Transit Authority car 450 off of a flatbed semitrailer (and its broad-gauge trucks) and on to the new RIVERFRONT car line. This car - along with the 451 - had just arrived from CARROLLTON STATION where they had been extensively overhauled. The 450 had been built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Co. in 1924 as New Orleans Public Service 924. It went to Atlanta soon after the CANAL car line was discontinued in 1964 and returned to New Orleans in January 1986. Both the forklifts and the truck were owned by the Southern Transfer Co. |
