PRR Westbound Passenger Train, c. 1952
Niles II. Here is the 15th of 19 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here is a triple-header composed of an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado," a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific," and a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex." They're pulling a passenger train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible is four-track Signal Bridge #2416. The locomotive road numbers and the exact date are not recorded.
