PRR Westbound Passenger Train, c. 1952
Niles II. Here is the 14th of 19 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here is a pair of K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" pulling a passenger train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible is four-track Signal Bridge #2416; beyond it are two water plugs, marking the location of the four-track coaling station that once stood there. The locomotive road numbers and the exact date are not recorded.
