PRR Eastbound Mineral Train, c. 1952
Niles. Here is the 13th of 19 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here is the tail end of a mineral train that's passing under four-track Signal Bridge #2416 on its way around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Note the ghostly image of a brakeman riding on one of the hopper cars, just beyond the signal bridge. The N-5 cabin car's number and the exact date are not recorded.
