NYC 4-6-4 #5339 - New York Central         
Caught speeding near Niagara Falls, NY, is NYC 4-6-4 Hudson #5339. Built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1931, it has many of the upgrades and revisions in the long developmental history of the Hudsons. Specs - J-1d class, 79" drivers, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 358,600 lb. The date was not listed so an approximate one used. Charles A. Rowe photo

Railside Alex General I believe this is a J-1b or c. The J-1d’s and e’s never had two reserves as seen on the left side here, although the b’s an c’s did until the late 30’s. The exhaust stack is behind the smokestack and the air compressor shields have a shape reminiscent of the early b’s, too. Great photo regardless! 10/18/2021 10:36:35 PM
